Broadmeadows train station
innovative super-hub
Currently, Broadmeadows has the reputation of 'dark and dingy' and 'wouldn't go there by myself.' Broadmeadows has recently been given the label "Super-Hub" from suburban rail loop. This is a very exciting term, but the current station is anything but super. With my design, I wanted to explore if the redevelopment of the Broadmeadows train station could be worthy of the title ‘Super-hub’.
As part of the studio, we introduced a medium-capacity train (MCT) that connected the northwest suburbs of Melbourne from Keon Park to Newport with Broadmeadows in the middle. The route was radial to Melbourne's CBD aligning along the northwest freight corridor and Camp road.

To improve the pedestrian connectivity of the station and the town centre, the Train tracks were elevated, resulting in camp road being lower back to grade. An additional line was added to future proof for a maximum freight future. The entrances to the station were shifted south closer to the Camp road and Pascoe Vale road intersection to meet Broadmeadows shifting town centre. To break the large pedestrian barrier of Pascoe vale road, I aligned the New MCT airport connection ton Pascoe Vale road, reducing a lane in each direction.
As well as improving the current issues of lack of safety in the station, little connection for pedestrians through the east and west sides and the town centre of Broadmeadows being a car-dominated space. I wanted to see if it was possible to change Broadmeadow’s current identity into something international and innovative while still holding onto its history.
I’ve designed the station precinct to become integral part of the Broadmeadows town centre I designed a creative precinct underneath the station. The precinct including a large workshop, small scale retail/hospitality and private studio spaces, a small supermarket and gallery space.
The intent behind this creative precinct draws from Broadmeadows already strong manufacturing history, the creative precinct aims to attract new innovative manufacturing start-ups to Broadmeadows. The Precinct will partner with the newly completed startNorth hub in Broadmeadows town hall. The station precinct would focus on creative and innovative manufacturing companies. Making most of the ideal proximity to major arterial roads, airport and the city.
